August 18, 2006

SHE'S FINALLY HERE! Well, after months of waiting, Addison Lee made her appearance into the world on Friday, August 18, 2006. At 2:36 pm she was born via C-section. She was 6lb. 13 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. On Wednesday Dr. McDonald asked me when I'd like to meet my little girl. I told her "how about today?" I was ready! She said she couldn't do today, but she could schedule us for tomorrow. She said to be at the hospital at 4:45 am the next morning and that we'd have a baby by Thursday afternoon. Obviously things didn't quite go as planned. On Thursday morning at 4:00 am we called the hospital to make sure they had a bed for us. They told us that they had had some unexpected arrivals that night, so we had to wait. The nurse said she thought they'd be able to get us in around 7:00 am. After hours of waiting and many phone calls to the hospital we finally got the call to come in around 12:30 pm. Unfortunately, Kacey had already gone in to work, but my mom was able to come pick me up and take me to the hospital. In the meantime, Kacey's parents were racing to Sugar Land from Atlanta hoping to make it in time for the birth. They started the first round of drugs around 2:00 that afternoon, added the second round at 3:00 am and we started pushing around 12:30 on Friday afternoon. Needless to say, it was a long day and night. After about an hour and a half of pushing with little or no progress Dr. McDonald told me that Addison was stuck and she recommended we do a c-section. Once we decided to go ahead with the c-section things started to move quickly. They had us in the operating room and we had our baby girl within 30 minutes. Seeing her for the first time made me forget all of the pain and worries from the day before. She was perfect!
