First Hospital Stay...

Addison had her first hospital stay last week. She had been trying to get over a cough and congestion for a few weeks, but on Thursday night she woke up sick and breathing really fast. On the advice of her pedi, we took her to an Emergency Care Center to have her checked out. After a chest x-ray and several other tests, they discovered that she had pneumonia in her right lung. So they sent us to Texas Children's Hospital to be admitted so they could watch how she responds to the antibiotics. "You'll just have to stop off at the ER for a couple of minutes before they admit you," they told us. Well, after 4 hours of sitting in the ER we were finally taken to our room. At this point, Addison had an IV, toe monitor, and was breathing with the help of oxygen. Friday was a really scary day with her breathing getting worse. But Saturday she turned the corner and started doing better. Despite the pneumonia spreading to her left lung, on Sunday evening she was breathing on her own again and we were sent home! Needless to say, Addison was ready to be done with that place! She ripped off her breathing tube, pulled her toe monitor off, and ripped out her IV.

Baby Prison?

Notice the splint on her arm to protect her IV? That really drove her crazy.

Marks left on her cheek after ripping off the oxygen tube...
